Climax Mine, Lake County, Colorado
More than 10 individual, translucent to transparent, bright pink rhombohedral crystals of Rhodochrosite cover the top of the matrix. The size of the Rhodochrosite crystals averages +/- 3 to 4 mm. Associated are four transparent, prismatic, terminated Quartz crystals ranging from 3/8" to 5/8" in length. Very nice specimen for display! Jim Clark collection.
Specimen size: 7/8" wide, 3/4" tall, 1/2" thick.

MILARITE
Val Giuv, Switzerland
Very pale yellow gemmy, prismatic single terminated crystal without matrix. The prism faces are smooth and sharp, and the termination is flat, and slightly beveled. Looks like a yellow Beryl crystal!! Swiss Milarite crystals are rare! F. Marshall collection.
Specimen size: 7 mm tall, 3.5 mm diameter

GOLD with QUARTZ
French Mine, Mariposa County, California
Another beautiful example of native Gold from the famous "California Mother Lode" district, this specimen consists of platy, or "leaf" Gold with a small amount of matrix. In contrast to the placer Gold specimens shown on Page 13, item MI-064, which were recovered from stream deposits, this specimen is an example of lode Gold, which was mined from an "in situ" deposit. A small amount of massive white Quartz is associated – no rock matrix. F. Marshall collection.
Specimen size: 1 3/8" long, 3/4" wide, 1/2" thick.
Order Item MI-068 Price: $750.

ELBAITE TOURMALINE
Himalaya Mine, Mesa Grande District, San Diego County, California
The Himalaya Mine is world famous for its production of gem, as well as specimen quality Elbaite Tourmaline crystals. An excellent article on the Himalaya Dike System appears in the "Mineralogical Record" magazine, special California issue (Vol. 8, No. 6, Nov-Dec 1977), P. 461-474, followed by an interesting account of the reopening of the Himalaya Mine in 1977. A copy of this magazine, containing excellent historical background information on the mine, as well as descriptions of the Elbaite Tourmaline and other minerals found at this locality, will be sent at no charge with each order for one of these California classics. The two specimens illustrated here are from the F. Marshall collection, and were probably mined in the late 1970’s to very early 1980’s. Both of the crystals exhibit flat top terminations with very slight beveling at the edges, as well as sharply striated prism faces. Color zoning of these specimen grade crystals is green at the termination, followed by a light rose pink band, with a smoky greenish-gray band at the base. The gram weights are given as a measure of size – pricing is not by the gram. Sizes are given: first column = length of the crystal, and the remaining two columns are the diameter of the crystal. BERYL Var. Aquamarine with ALBITE, MUSCOVITE
Dusso, Karakoram Range, Gilgit Division, Pakistan
From one of the pegmatite deposits near Dusso, this specimen has a gemmy, clear, pale aqua color individual Beryl crystal perched on the top-center of the matrix. The Beryl crystal is absolutely flawless and gemmy, hexagonal, with a flat termination. It measures 18 mm tall, and 12 X 9 mm in diameter. In inches, this is approx. 7/8"+ tall, and 1/2" X near 3/8" in diameter. The Feldspar crystal at the right side of the specimen, as oriented in the photo, measures 7/8" X 1/2". The base of the specimen has been sawed flat, so the specimen stands up very nicely for display. For background information on the pegmatites of the Dusso region, see the "Mineralogical Record" magazine, Vol. 16, No. 5, Sept-Oct 1985, P. 393-410 (Tourmaline issue). V. J. Desanto collection.
Size: 2 1/2" X 1 1/2" across the base, X 1 1/2" tall.
