VESUVIANITE (IDOCRASE)
Jeffrey Mine, Asbestos, Quebec, Canada
From a find made circa 1989, this very nice specimen would make an excellent addition to any collection specializing in double terminated crystals, or single crystals. This double terminated crystal is also color zoned! It has a light pink exterior, and a pale green center. The pale green color zone runs down most of the length of the crystal, but can only be seen clearly at one of the terminations – the termination shown at the top, as the specimen is oriented in the photo at the left. Both terminations are very sharp and shiny, and the prism faces are also sharp and shiny, with some stepped growth evident. The crystal is slightly tapered, i.e., slightly wider at the base, with no growth imperfections or point of attachment. For background information on the Jeffrey Mine and minerals found there, please refer to the "Mineralogical Record" magazine, Vol. 10, No. 2 (March-April 1979), P. 69-80, however, pink Vesuvianite crystals were not found at this locality until about 8-10 years after the article was written.
Specimen size: 2" long. The diameter varies from 3/8" X 3/8" at the top, to 1/2" X 1/2" at the base.

mi1021.jpg (42776 bytes) SZENICSITE with POWELLITE
Jardinera No. 1 Mine, Inca del Oro, north of Copiapo, Atacama Province, Chile (type locale)
Szenicsite is a fairly recently described mineral species – see the "Mineralogical Record" magazine, Jan-Feb 1994, P. 66 (advertisement and color photo), and P. 76 (abstract). Also see "Dana’s New Mineralogy", P. 1003, and "New Minerals 1990-1994". P. 180. Szenicsite, a copper hydroxyl molybdate, has formed "torbernite green" color bladed crystals and crystalline intergrowths, in a fairly attractive grouping, with a small amount of rock matrix. The light brown and pale green areas visible on the center and right side of the specimen are small masses of secondary Powellite. In the center of the specimen, the light brown platy hexagonal intergrowths are Powellite, pseudo after Molybdenite crystals. The Powellite is fluorescent bright yellow under SW UV only. The specimen has an original Aurora Mineral Corp. label, which is Terry Szenics’ company label.
Size: 1 3/4" wide X 1 1/4" high X 1 1/8" thick

GOLD
Rosia Montana (Verespatak), Romania
Rosia Montana is probably the most famous of the European Gold localities. Several fine color photographs of Gold specimens from this locality are featured in the "Mineralogical Record" magazine, Vol. 13, No. 6 (Gold I issue), Nov-Dec 1982, P. 360, 36l, 364, 369, 372, and 373. The text on P. 374 briefly describes the Rosia Montana locality and Gold specimen habits found there. The Gold is always very bright, and was found as crystals, leaves, wires, and dendritic aggregates. The specimen pictured at the left is from the F. Marshall collection, and consists of a very bright leaf of native Gold associated with a small amount of white Quartz which is present along the top edge of the leaf, on the front of the specimen. A thin layer of white Quartz also covers part of the back of the specimen. Where the Gold is exposed on the back of the specimen, one can see numerous tiny triangular markings (trigonal crystal faces) along with several very tiny Sphalerite crystals. No rock matrix.
Specimen size: 3/4" tall X 1/2" wide X 1/8" thick
Order Item MI-1022 Price: $175.  SOLD

NOTE: The following special Gold issues of the "Mineralogical Record" are also available for purchase:
Gold I --- Vol. 13, No. 6, Nov-Dec 1982 Price: $45.
Gold II -- Vol. 18, No. 2, Jan-Feb 1987 Price: $12.

STIBNITE
Bajuz (also sometimes spelled Baiuti, or Bejutz), Maramures, Romania
A photograph of a large group of Stibnite crystals from this locality appears in the "Mineralogical Record" magazine, March-April 1984, P. 117. This very aesthetic miniature size specimen consists of a three-dimensional, fan-like grouping composed of more than 25 terminated crystals, without matrix. The largest crystals are up to 3/4" and 7/8" in length. The specimen is temporarily mounted on a clear plexiglass base for display, but can easily be removed if desired (water soluble glue). F. Marshall collection.
Specimen size: 1 3/4" wide, 1 1/4" high, 3/4" thick

ELBAITE (Tourmaline) with LEPIDOLITE
Perdeneira Mine, State of Minas Gerais, Brazil
Four terminated, dark green Elbaite Tourmaline crystals, up to 1 3/8" tall, form an intergrown group without matrix. The terminations have a "frosted" luster, and the prism faces are sharp and striated. Numerous other smaller Elbaite crystals, both terminated and non-terminated, are present in the group. Tiny, very pale pink crystals of Lepidolite are dotted over the front and back of the specimen. The Lepidolite crystals have the appearance of "white pepper" as a secondary deposition formed upon the prism faces of the Tourmaline crystals, as shown in the accompanying photo. A few micro white Albite crystals are also present on the back of the group. This specimen would make a meaningful addition to any collection specializing in Tourmaline group specimens, as it has complete locality information -- Brazilian specimens with complete locality information are often difficult to find! F. Marshall collection.
Specimen size: 1 3/8" wide, 1 1/4" tall, 1" thick.

ENARGITE
Leonard Mine, Butte, Silver Bow County, Montana
Two very good 1960’s vintage Enargite specimens are available here, both from the F. Marshall collection. Item A. is a good "thumbnail" size specimen, with the largest crystal measuring 3/8" tall. Item B. is a very nice "miniature" size specimen with more than 20 very sharp, metallic black terminated Enargite crystals of +/- 1/4" size. An added feature for item B. is the association of three very pale blue terminated, hexagonal Fluorapatite crystals of 2 to 4 mm size. Both Enargite specimens are mounted on clear plexiglass bases for purpose of display – these can easily be removed, if desired, as water soluble Elmer’s glue was used.

CERUSSITE with BARITE
Mibladen, Adeghoual, Morocco
This very attractive small miniature size specimen has a complete, double terminated, euhedral, translucent pale smoky gray Cerussite crystal perched upon a matrix of light orange to white bladed Barite crystals. The Cerussite crystal measures 1" long, and 3/4" X 3/4" in cross section, with very lustrous faces and complex form. The Cerussite is fluorescent bright yellow-golden under both SW and LW UV. Phos: none. The Barite is a vein section with multiple intergrown crystal blades on the front of the specimen (light orange in color), grading to massive white on the back of the vein. C. Yoder collection.
Specimen size: 1 3/8" wide, 1 1/8" tall, 3/4" thick
