General physical features of the Fulgurites from
Great Sand Sea, Libyan Desert, Southwestern Egypt

TYPE V (Tan-gray, tubular, open on both ends, with pronounced ridges.)

OUTSIDE SURFACE:
FORM:

Fairly straight down the length of the specimen, equidimensional to flattened in cross section, usually with very pronounced, often convoluted ridges. 
All specimens have tubular form, with both ends of the tube open.
COLOR: Gray to tan.
TEXTURE: Fairly smooth, glassy, with pronounced ridges.
SAND GRANULES:

Modest amount, sometimes practically nonexistent, i.e., the sand granules were mostly fused during formation.
GLASSY INTERIOR:
COLOR:

Colorless to pale gray, translucent to transparent.
TEXTURE: Smooth, glassy.
BUBBLES  (GAS
POCKETS)  PRESENT:		 Numerous, microscopic.
