General physical features of the Fulgurites from
Great Sand Sea, Libyan Desert, Southwestern Egypt
TYPE V (Tan-gray, tubular, open on both ends, with pronounced ridges.)
Fairly straight down
the length of the specimen, equidimensional to flattened in cross section,
usually with very pronounced, often convoluted ridges.
|COLOR:||Gray to tan.|
|TEXTURE:||Fairly smooth, glassy, with pronounced ridges.|
Modest amount, sometimes practically nonexistent, i.e., the sand granules were mostly fused during formation.
Colorless to pale gray, translucent to transparent.
