GENERAL INFORMATION ABOUT THE
LOCALITY |
|
This exciting find was made
several years ago, quite by accident. The tendency for specimens from
this find is to form as elongated, single tubes, sometimes slightly
curved, but most often fairly straight down the length of the tube.
Branches are uncommon. The finder was kind enough to provide the
accompanying photos of the dig site. These fulgurites were recovered
from a sandy area where, in at least one case, an excavation more than
10 feet deep was made in order to recover the entire fulgurite!

|
OUTSIDE SURFACE |
|
Form: |
Fairly straight, to slightly
curved down the length of the specimen, usually equidimensional,
tubular. Small, secondary branches are uncommon. |
|

Light to medium charcoal gray. |
|

Fairly smooth, without ridges or
large rocks attached. |
|
Sand Granules: |
Small bits of unfused Quartz
sand, and occasionally very tiny fragments of white Feldspar are
attached. |
|
GLASSY INTERIOR |
|
Color: |
Very pale “bottle-olive green”

Where the fulgurites are tubular
and open, the texture of the glass is very smooth and shiny. |
