Chlum nad Malsi, SW of Locenice,
Bohemia, Czechoslovakia

The specimens in this group were collected from one of the best-known sites for Moldavites which exhibit the characteristic attractive, rounded shapes.  These shapes have been produced by the natural geologic processes which have transported the specimens by stream action from the original sites where they fell, and eventually located them in deposits of sedimentary material. Some of the original surface features of these bright bottle-green color Moldavites have been rounded and smoothed by stream action, and further sculptured by acidic ground waters over the period of approximately 14.7 million years -- the current, scientifically accepted, calculated age of Moldavites.  All examples are quite translucent and gemmy when held up to a light source, as shown in the accompanying photographs.  This occurrence is documented in “Tektites”, edited by V. & M. Barnes, P. 256, 257, 258-259, 261, 262-263 (1973).  If you do not have the book “Tektites” in your reference library, please ask and Xerox copies of the 7 pages of information on Moldavites recovered from this locality will be sent with your order for any specimen from this group.  Pricing is @ +/- $7.00 per gram.  Order item numbers MO-100 through MO-117.

Note: The dark areas shown in the centers of some of the specimens are the result of the photographer using a small “prop” behind some of the specimens to orient them in an upright position for photographing.  Since the specimens are so translucent, the “props” show up as dark areas in the centers of some of the Moldavites.  All specimens are actually quite translucent, and of a consistent green color throughout.
